Brett Gardner could be out “a significant amount of time”

There isn’t a lot of time left in this season — and less time for the New York Yankees, competitively speaking — but it looks as though Brett Gardner is going to miss most or all of it. Mark Feinsand of the Daily News reports that Gardner will be out “a significant amount of time.” He quotes Joe Girardi saying that he’s “not sure when we’ll get him back,” and that “It’s a concern of mine.”

Gardner missed the entire weekend and last night’s game for the Yankees after being diagnosed with strained abdominal muscle. It’s a big blow for New York, as Gardner has been the Yankees best and most consistent offensive performer all year. He’s hitting .269/.342/.442 with a career-high 16 homers.
