Two months ago the Cubs traded Jeff Samardzija to the A’s as part of their ongoing rebuilding effort, but by the time the 29-year-old right-hander is eligible for free agency after next season Chicago might be in the market for front-of-the-rotation pitching help.
So would Samarzija consider returning to the Cubs? He would, or at least that’s what he told Patrick Mooney of CSNChicago.com:
That is absolutely something that is on my list. I love it here. I’ve spent my whole life here. For sure, [Chicago] will definitely be something that is on my list. It will be an exciting time. But like I said, there’s still a lot of work to be done to get to that spot.
Of course, what else is he going to say? Nah, scratch a potential free agent bidder off the list and let’s anger an entire city in the process? Still, with the Cubs stockpiling young hitters while needing pitching help it’s perhaps not so far-fetched.
