The Tigers are two back in the AL Central and a half game back in the wild card. They need every bit of everything they can muster to catch up, but their Mr. Everything, Miguel Cabrera, has been hobbled of late. Now we have a more specific diagnosis than a mere sore ankle: he has bone spurs.
As Jason Beck of MLB.com notes, bone spurs are often, but not always, handled with surgery. No decision on that has been made by the Tigers yet, and it sounds like that decision is for the offseason, not now. Which, duh, as a hobbled Cabrera is better than no Cabrera. Although, as we saw last year, when Cabrera was hampered in September and October with injures, a hobbled Cabrera often means a hobbled Tigers offense.
