Hyun-Jin Ryu throws simulated game, nears return to Dodgers

Dodgers left-hander Hyun-Jim Ryu threw a two-inning simulated game Wednesday and could be ready to return from his disabled list stint for a strained right gluteus muscle.

Ryu is eligible to come off the disabled list Friday, but Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports that the Dodgers may wait to activate him until Monday when rosters expand for September so that no other transaction is required.

Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke get most of the attention in the Dodgers’ rotation–and rightfully so–but Ryu has also been fantastic with a 3.12 ERA in 53 starts since signing a six-year, $36 million contract with Los Angeles last offseason.
