Madison Bumgarner loses perfect game in the eighth

We interrupt this regular old Tuesday night to inform you that Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner is working on a perfect game at San Francisco’s AT&T Park. He has not allowed a hit or a walk through seven innings and he’s thrown just 78 pitches despite striking out nine Colorado hitters.

Updates to come as Bumgarner tries for history.

UPDATE, 12:22 a.m. ET: Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau opened the top of the eighth inning with a double down the right field line. So much for that. Blame us if you want to. Bumgarner struck out the next three batters he faced — shutout intact.
