Mets unlikely to call up prospect Noah Syndergaard

Mets right-hander Noah Syndergaard is one of the best pitching prospects in baseball and he’s racked up 111 strikeouts in 108 innings at Triple-A as a 21-year-old, but Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports that he’s unlikely to be called up to the majors this season.

According to Rubin there hasn’t been an official decision made yet regarding his potential debut, but the Mets’ Triple-A team is bound for the playoffs and Syndergaard may surpass his team-imposed workload limit during the postseason run.

It’s possible he could get a September call-up and a few relief appearances, but given his age and minor arm problems earlier this season Syndergaard making a full-scale debut as a member of the starting rotation seems like a long shot.
