Ryan Rowland-Smith is no longer with the Reds, per the International League’s transactions page. Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that Rowland-Smith has opted out of his minor league deal with the Reds. The 31-year-old was released by the Blue Jays in mid-June and signed by the Reds to at the end of June.

In 15 innings with Triple-A Louisville, Rowland-Smith posted a 4.20 ERA with a 9/4 K/BB ratio. He made his first appearance in the big leagues since 2010 earlier this season with the Diamondbacks, but didn’t have much success, allowing four runs in 7 1/3 innings of relief between April 2 and 14.

Rowland-Smith was relatively effective at Triple-A in 2012-13 in the Cubs and Red Sox organizations. Given that he’s still only 31 and left-handed, he should still draw some interest as a flier to serve as organizational depth.
