Indians manager Terry Francona expects starter Justin Masterson to be activated on Friday for a home start against the Rangers, MLB.com’s Jordan Bastian reports.
In his last start, on July 7, Masterson left in the third inning without recording an out against the Yankees. He went on the 15-day disabled list the next day with inflammation in his right knee.
Masterson is eligible for free agency after the season and there hasn’t been any progress in the way of an extension between the pitcher and the Indians. He hasn’t helped his cause with his 2014 results, as he currently owns a 5.51 ERA with a 93/56 K/BB ratio in 98 innings.
