Kelly Johnson goes on Yankees’ disabled list with groin injury

Kelly Johnson isn’t as needed in the Yankees’ lineup following the trade for Chase Headley and now he won’t be available at all for a while, as the utility man has been placed on the disabled list with a strained groin.

Johnson signed a one-year, $3 million deal this offseason and has played all over the diamond, starting games at third base, first base, left field, and right field.

He’s hit just .219 with six homers and a .677 OPS in 77 games, which is no doubt part of why the Yankees felt the need to find an upgrade in Headley and why Johnson will likely be a part-time player whenever he does return.
