Rangers sign Jerome Williams

Released earlier this week by the Astros, right-hander Jerome Williams has agreed to a minor-league contract with the Rangers.

Texas is always in need of pitching depth thanks to this season’s seemingly never-ending injuries and Williams has generally been a decent back-of-the-rotation starter or long reliever before struggling for Houston this year on a one-year, $2.1 million contract.

Prior to posting a 6.04 ERA in 26 relief appearances for the Astros he had a combined 4.46 ERA in 351 innings from 2011-2013 split between the Angels’ rotation and bullpen. For now he’ll head to Triple-A.
