White Sox sign No. 3 pick Carlos Rodon for $6.6 million

White Sox general manager Rick Hahn repeatedly expressed confidence in his ability to get No. 3 overall pick Carlos Rodon signed despite the North Carolina State left-hander being a Scott Boras client and sure enough the two sides have reached an agreement.

Baseball America reports that Rodon will receive a $6.582 million signing bonus, which is the largest in White Sox history and well above the slot recommendation of $5.72 million. In other words, Boras got his client a bunch of extra money.

Coming into the season Rodon was widely viewed as the likely No. 1 pick, which had a slot recommendation of $7.9 million this season. He should move very quickly through the White Sox’s farm system, setting up a potential 2015 debut.

The Brewers haven’t yet decided what route to go for Game 4 of the NLCS, but Wade Miley will start Game 5, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Miley will be on three days’ rest after starting Game 2 on Saturday.

Miley, 31, has yet to give up a run this postseason. He made his postseason debut in Game 3 of the NLDS against the Rockies, hurling 4 2/3 scoreless innings. He then went 5 2/3 scoreless innings against the Dodgers.

Jhoulys Chacín is starting tonight’s Game 3. It seems likely the Brewers will go with an “opener” in Game 4. Who that will be likely depends on which pitchers are used tonight.
