Justin Verlander got a late start to his spring training thanks to a core-muscle repair surgery in early January. But one gets the sense that he’ll be ready for the season regardless. Verlander pitched four innings against the Blue Jays today, throwing 52 pitches while giving up a single, walking two and striking out two.
The key for me here is the four innings. The first couple of starts for veteran starters in spring training last an inning or two, then they work up. Right now most healthy starters are throwing five at the most. If Verlander is already at four out of the chute, he should be good to go by the time the Tigers break camp.
