Post-porno flap, the Cardinals tell their players to use social media The Right Way

Posting porno on a Twitter feed is something a low-class organization’s players will do. It’s not The Cardinal Way:

A day after Deadspin, a sports website that posts commentary on various sports issues and athletes, posted a list of pornographic images that showed up on the Twitter feed of Cardinals pitcher Carlos Martinez, manager Mike Matheny addressed players in a morning meeting about the need to be vigilant about their use of social media.

Oops. Here’s the Deadspin post.

If I was talking to athletes about social media I’d simply tell them: it’s a microphone. Assume every social media platform you use, be it Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, a blogging platform, MySpace, Friendster or some weird forum on the last outpost of Commodore64’s HomeLink network is the same thing as a microphone being held by a reporter from the local paper. Say nothing into it that you wouldn’t say to the reporter and you’ll never go wrong.

There was some thought that Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton would soon be activated from the injured list. Stanton has been out since the beginning of April due to biceps and shoulder injuries. It will be a little while longer.

The Yankees announced on Wednesday that Stanton’s rehab has been halted due to tightness in his left calf. Stanton was scratched from Tuesday’s rehab game with High-A Tampa due to tightness around his left calf and knee, so this news didn’t pop up out of nowhere.

Stanton recorded a pair of singles and seven walks in 15 trips to the plate in the only three games he played this season, all against the Orioles. Durability has always been a concern for the 29-year-old, but he managed to play in 159 games for the Marlins in 2017 and 158 for the Yankees last year. He’s in the fifth year of a 13-year, $325 million contract originally signed with the Marlins.
