Padres pitching prospect and former seventh overall draft pick Max Fried has been shut down for at least two weeks with soreness in his left forearm.

General manager Josh Byrnes told Corey Brock of MLB.com that Fried complained of soreness while doing some offseason throwing, so the Padres examined him and “have decided to shut down any throwing until the symptoms are completely resolved.”

Fried ranked as one of Baseball America‘s top 100 prospects last season and this season, placing 53rd on this year’s list at age 20 after striking out 100 batters in 119 innings at low Single-A in 2013.
