The Astros still want a new spring training complex in Palm Beach County

There was talk of the Astros and Blue Jays moving in to a joint spring training complex in Palm Beach County. That’s probably not happening. But the Astros still want to do it. And maybe the Nationals will be their bunkmates:

The Astros and Nationals have spoken about it, albeit not extensively, and plan to do so again, a person with knowledge of the talks said. The Nationals, who train in Viera, Fla., had a preliminary conversation with county officials last week.

Giles Kibbe, general counsel for the Astros, said the team is open to a new complex with either the Blue Jays or Nationals.

It’d be heard to move to the Atlantic coast alone given that only a few teams are left over there. Doubling up makes sense and, as the Arizona complexes have shown, probably make for the best use of resources overall.

On November 30 the Nationals acquired catcher Yan Gomes from the Indians acquired infielder Andruw Monasterio from the Nationals for Daniel Johnson, Jefry Rodriguez and a player to be named later. The player has now been named: Andruw Monasterio.

Monasterio, an had been acquired by the Nationals from the Cubs in August in the Daniel Murphy deal. Now the 21-year-old infielder is on his way to Cleveland. He hit .267/.363/.338 in high-A ball last season. He’s probably a future utilityman. But hey, at least he now has a name.

[Editor: that’s not how “player to be named” works]

Anyway. Enjoy your Monday.
