Tigers increase big ALCS Game 4 lead over Red Sox

Game 4 of the ALCS has quickly become a rout.

The Tigers scored five runs in a big second inning and just added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 7-0 lead over the Red Sox at Detroit’s Comerica Park. Austin Jackson, who was mired in a postseason slump and bumped to eighth in the Tigers’ order for this Wednesday night game, already has two RBI. Miguel Cabrera, the likely MVP in the American League, also has two RBI.

Tigers starter Doug Fister has allowed at least one Boston baserunner in every inning so far, but the Red Sox still haven’t been able to break through for a run.

The bottom of the fifth inning is about to get underway in front of a loud sellout crowd.

Boston has a 2-1 lead — for now — in the American League Championship Series.

Wednesday night’s game at PNC Park between the Brewers and Pirates has been postponed, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. No makeup date has been announced yet. As Brink points out, the two clubs meet again in Pittsburgh September 21-23 and both have an off day on the 20th, so that could be a potential makeup date.

Brent Suter and Chad Kuhl were scheduled to square off on the mound. Their starts will likely be pushed back to Thursday. The Pirates will host the Diamondbacks and the Brewers will host the Cardinals.

The Cubs won on Wednesday afternoon, so the Brewers are tied with the Cubs for first place in the NL Central. The Pirates are seven games back in third place.
