Phillies offer Charlie Manuel another job in the organization

Yesterday the Phillies made changes to manager Ryne Sandberg’s coaching staff, including adding Larry Bowa as bench coach and parting ways with assistant hitting coach Wally Joyner, and now they’re trying to bring their old manager back into the fold in some capacity too.

Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reports that Charlie Manuel, who was fired late in the season and replaced by Sandberg, has been offered “an undisclosed position in the organization.”

General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. met with Manuel recently to discuss a possible return, calling it “a real good discussion” and revealing that “we made him an offer.”

Considering his experience and reputation across baseball Manuel no doubt has a bunch of job offers from which to choose and at age 69 it’s also possible that he’ll decide to take some time off or perhaps even call it a career.
