John Jaso is “a long shot” to rejoin the A’s for the playoffs

John Jaso has been on the disabled list since July with a concussion, but the A’s catcher is playing instructional league games this week to see if returning for the playoffs is possible.

However, according to Joe Stiglich of CSNBayArea.com it’s “a long shot” and if Jaso does return for the postseason he’d be used strictly as a hitter rather than risking any more brain trauma at catcher.

Jaso isn’t much of a defensive catcher anyway and he posted a .387 on-base percentage in 70 games before the concussion, so having him available even in a role as limited as pinch-hitter could still be plenty valuable for the A’s.

Wednesday night’s game at PNC Park between the Brewers and Pirates has been postponed, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Brent Suter and Chad Kuhl were scheduled to square off on the mound. Their starts will likely be pushed back to Thursday. The Pirates will host the Diamondbacks and the Brewers will host the Cardinals.

The Cubs won on Wednesday afternoon, so the Brewers are tied with the Cubs for first place in the NL Central. The Pirates are seven games back in fourth place.
