It’s been assumed for a while now that the Mets would bring back Terry Collins as manager next season and sure enough Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the two sides are engaged in contract talks.

According to Rosenthal general manager Sandy Alderson is traveling with the team in Cincinnati and is expected to meet with Collins to hammer out the details.

Collins has a 222-257 (.463) record in three seasons as Mets manager, including 71-84 this year. Alderson has previously stressed that the front office’s evaluation of Collins extended beyond wins and losses, and certainly the roster he’s been working with was never particularly impressive even before being wrecked by injuries this season.
