Dallas Gallant, a Twins minor leaguer who pitched at Single-A this season, has been suspended 50 games for a positive amphetamine test.
Gallant was a 23rd-round pick in 2010 out of Sam Houston State and missed all of 2011 following Tommy John elbow surgery. He’s thrown just 57 career innings in four seasons, but has posted a 3.49 ERA with 73 strikeouts. He’ll serve the suspension at the beginning of next season, setting his development back even further at age 25.
(Also, there’s surely a “Goofus and Gallant” joke to make here and a better blogger than me would probably make it, but it’s late on a Friday and honestly I can’t remember anything about the cartoon despite reading plenty of “Highlights” as a kid. Sorry.)
