Placido Polanco is mulling retirement

Marlins third baseman Placido Polanco, who turns 38 years old in less than three weeks, is considering retiring after the season. In his first year with the Marlins following a three-year stint in Philadelphia, Polanco has posted a .251/.306/.290 line while staying healthy for most of the season.

Via Juan C. Rodriguez of the Sun Sentinel, Polanco would only be interested in prolonging his Major League career if he can stay close to his family.

“It has to be close to home. I have to see what’s out there, but the kids, the wife and family is probably ready for me to be home now. This year was really good, the fact I was at home most of the time. It seems like the season went by quick and everybody was happy.”

Polanco’s stipulation essentially limits his potential suitors in 2014 to the Marlins, Rays, and Braves.
