Mets phenom Matt Harvey was diagnosed Monday morning with a partially-torn ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow. That injury almost always leads to Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery and it likely will in Harvey’s case, but the 24-year-old right-hander is opting to keep Mets fans optimistic with messages on his personal Twitter account.
Here’s what Harvey sent out Tuesday afternoon:
Thank you everyone for the kind words and support. I may be done this year, but I will be back next year for April 1.

Recovery from Tommy John surgery takes 12-15 months.
We’re betting Harvey won’t pitch for the Mets again until 2015.
