Retired All-Star Ben Sheets starts coaching at alma mater

If not for injuries ruining his career Ben Sheets would probably still be pitching at age 35, but instead the four-time All-Star called it quits after starting the final game of the Braves’ season last year.

And now he’s getting into coaching at his alma mater, joining the University of Louisiana-Monroe staff as a volunteer assistant.

Sheets pitched for ULM from 1997-1999 before being drafted 10th overall by the Brewers and earned more than $50 million during a 10-year career that saw him post a 3.78 ERA in 1,600 innings between injuries.
