Indians release Mark Reynolds

As expected no other teams wanted anything to do with the $2 million remaining on Mark Reynolds’ contract, so he cleared waivers after being designated for assignment last week and the Indians released him.

However, now that Reynolds is available to sign with any team for any salary it seems likely that he’ll generate some interest as a stretch-run platoon starter or bench bat. Plenty of teams could use him for some pop versus left-handed pitching and there are already reports suggesting the Orioles might be interested in a reunion.

For all his strikeouts and poor batting averages this is the first time in Reynolds’ seven-year career that he’s failed to top a .750 OPS.
