Derek Jeter injures quadriceps in first game back from broken ankle

Derek Jeter made his season debut this afternoon, returning to the Yankees’ lineup with an infield single in his first at-bat. Later, in his third at-bat, Jeter injured his right quadriceps muscle.

After the game both Jeter and manager Joe Girardi expressed optimism that it wasn’t a serious injury, but Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports that he is being sent for an MRI exam.

At the very least a tweaked quadriceps should keep Jeter at designated hitter for a while. He started at DH today, batting second in the lineup, while Eduardo Nunez manned shortstop.
