Jeff Bauman had his legs blown off at last month’s Boston Marathon. When he woke up in the hospital a few hours later, he asked for a pen and wrote a note to the FBI that would lead to a quick identification of the two bombing suspects. Carlos Arredondo, the “hero in the Cowboy hat” from that famous but gruesome photograph, treated Bauman’s wounds in the initial aftermath of the blast and rushed him to an ambulance.
