Mariners choose Jason Bay over Casper Wells

The Mariners designated Casper Wells for assignment, which means Jason Bay has made the club, according to Larry Stone on Twitter.

Bay finished the spring with a .938 OPS while Wells was less impressive at .646. Stone also notes that if Wells clears waivers, he cannot elect free agency because of his lack of service time. The Phillies were recently reported to have interest in Wells, so they may be one team to place a claim.

As for Bay, it good to see him earn a spot on the team as the outfielder failed to live up to a four-year, $66 million contract with the Mets in part due to dealing with the aftermath of a concussion.
