Yankees among teams with interest in Chien-Ming Wang

Chien-Ming Wang back in pinstripes? Maybe.

CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman reports that the Yankees and five other MLB teams are expressing interest in the free agent right-hander, who allowed just four hits over six scoreless innings Saturday as his Chinese Taipei team grabbed a 4-1 victory over Australia in Group B of the 2013 World Baseball Classic.

The Yankees were in attendance for that start.

Wang posted a hideous 6.68 ERA and 2.01 WHIP in 32 1/3 innings (five starts, five relief appearances) last season for the Nationals, but the 32-year-old was battling hip and hamstring issues. He registered a 4.04 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in 62 1/3 innings (11 starts) with the Nats in 2011.

The Yankees need starting rotation depth because Phil Hughes is having back problems.
