Royals manager Ned Yost back at work after surgery to remove gallbladder

Ned Yost was away from Royals camp yesterday for an undisclosed reason, but today the manager returned and explained why: He underwent surgery to remove his gallbladder.

Missing just one day of work for a gallbladder removal seems insane to me, but according to WebMD it’s a laparoscopic surgery under general anesthesia and often done as an outpatient. If his recovery is typical Yost will be “sore for about a week” and can return to “normal activities in 7-10 days.”

And here’s the part where you may want to stop reading this post:

After surgery, bile flows from the liver (where it is made) through the common bile duct and into the small intestine. Because the gallbladder has been removed, the body can no longer store bile between meals. In most people, this has little or no effect on digestion.

Ned Yost: Now without bile.
