Joel Peralta suffers sandwich-related injury

This is obviously the leader in the clubhouse for best injury of the year.

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports that Rays reliever Joel Peralta “hurt his neck getting out of the car when he stopped for sandwiches.”

I realize it’s only February 13, but that’s gonna be awfully tough to beat.

There is some good news, though. According to Topkin: “Peralta was still able to get the sandwiches … and said they were good. Shouldn’t miss much time.”

Phew.

UPDATE: Peralta was driving a Camaro, which makes the whole thing even better.

The Reno Aces (Diamondbacks) and Tacoma Rainiers (Mariners) played a wild one on Monday. The game featured 33 runs on 39 hits and 16 walks with 10 homers. Four of those homers were hit by Yasmany Tomás. Matt Szczur hit for the cycle while Kevin Cron knocked in six runs and hit a pair of homers, giving him 21 on the season. Reno won 25-8, by the way.

That’s some baseball they’re using in Triple-A, isn’t it?
