Fox purchases Sportstime Ohio, will broadcast Indians games

STO — the Indians’ sports network — was acquired by FOX Sports Media Group today:

In addition, FOX Sports Media Group announced that it has secured the exclusive long-term local telecast rights for Indians baseball, ensuring that the Indians will once again be part of the FOX Sports portfolio of regionally televised hometown teams. Prior to the 2006 season, Indians games were locally televised by FOX Sports Ohio.

That’s from the press release. Other reports say that, in addition, the Indians will start to receive about $10 million more a year for broadcast rights. Which is nice.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Red Sox are “openly listening” to offers for Rick Porcello. He says that the idea is to shed some salary for bullpen help, though just yesterday Dave Dombrowski said he was not planning on spending a lot of money on the bullpen this winter so who friggin’ knows?

Porcello posted a 4.28 ERA in 33 starts this past season. He is owed $21 million in 2019 and will be a free agent this time next year. Seems hard to imagine a deal that makes sense for him, but I suppose anything can happen.
