Braves exercise 2014 option on manager Fredi Gonzalez

Fredi Gonzalez won’t have to manage this season on a one-year contract, as the Braves just announced that they’ve exercised his 2014 option.

Gonzalez, who was fired by the Marlins in mid-2010 and then took over for a retiring Bobby Cox with the Braves in 2011, has a 183-141 (.565) record in Atlanta after going 276-279 (.497) in Florida.

Gonzalez’s option for 2014 is part of the original three-year contract he signed in October of 2010.

This year the Braves went 94-68 and made the postseason as one of the Wild Card teams, but lost the one-game playoff to the Cardinals.
