Delmon Young underwent ankle surgery earlier this month

Jeff Keppinger is not the only free agent who is recovering from unexpected offseason ankle surgery.

According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports, outfielder and designated hitter Delmon Young underwent an ankle procedure on November 10 to remove painful bone spurs and smooth out some jagged cartilage.

Young is fully expected to recovered by the beginning of spring training next February, so the surgery shouldn’t have too significant of an effect on the years and dollars that he ultimately signs for.

The 27-year-old batted .267/.296/.411 with 18 home runs and 74 RBI in 608 plate appearances this past season for the Tigers. He also went 15-for-58 with three home runs and nine RBI in 13 postseason games.

The Red Sox seem content to let Craig Kimbrel sign elsewhere

LAS VEGAS — Red Sox president Dave Dombrowski strongly signaled that the team was unlikely to re-sign Craig Kimbrel, telling the assembled Boston media contingent that, “we’re not looking to make a per se big expenditure in that area.” Referring to the bullpen.

Kimbrel, who saved 42 games for the World Series champs, was recently reported to be seeking a six-year contract. I doubt he gets that, but he’ll get a pretty big deal nonetheless, and the Sox obviously feel like they can manage with a cheaper option in the back of the bullpen.
