Joba Chamberlain makes back-to-back appearances

For a guy who — if you believed the early reports from the trampoline incident — had his last rites administered and was 3/4 of the way down the white tunnel of light, his ancestors beckoning to him to join them, Joba Chamberlain is doing pretty well.

In fact, he threw 11 pitches in a rehab appearances yesterday, which was his second inning of work in as many days.  Overall he’s made five rehab appearances, throwing seven innings, allowing one earned run and striking out seven.

He looks Yankees-bound. Probably within the next couple of weeks.

Per Todd Tomczyk, the Pirates’ director of sports medicine, starter Chad Kuhl underwent right elbow surgery on Wednesday, MLB.com’s Adam Berry reports. The Pirates should provide more details about the nature of the surgery and Kuhl’s timetable soon.

Kuhl, 26, has been out of action since late June with a strained right forearm. He had been on a throwing program but experienced a setback earlier this month.

This season, Kuhl made 16 starts, putting up a 4.55 ERA with 81 strikeouts and 33 walks across 85 innings.
