Orioles might be close to calling up 49-year-old Jamie Moyer

Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun noticed that Triple-A Norfolk’s upcoming probable starters list doesn’t include Jamie Moyer, who’s made three starts there since being released by the Rockies and signing a minor-league deal with the Orioles.

It might mean nothing, but Connolly speculates that the Orioles could be on the verge of calling Moyer up for some rotation help, which would be a remarkably quick return to the majors for a guy who looked just about finished for the Rockies.

Moyer had a 5.70 ERA in 10 starts for Colorado, serving up 11 homers in 54 innings while allowing opponents to hit .328. He’s been impressive at Triple-A with a 1.69 ERA and 16/0 K/BB ratio in 16 innings, but it’s tough to imagine Moyer not getting knocked around in the AL East.
