Braves release Livan Hernandez

As expected Livan Hernandez cleared waivers after being designated for assignment last week and today the Braves released the 37-year-old right-hander.

No team wanted anything to do with Hernandez’s guaranteed contract, but now that the Braves are on the hook for that entire deal and he’s available for a prorated share of the minimum salary he could find a taker. At the very least he’ll surely be able to snag a minor-league deal and a chance to work his way back to the majors at Triple-A.

Hernandez had a 2.73 ERA as recently as May 25, but turned in back-to-back ugly outings to finish with a 4.94 ERA and .331 opponents’ batting average in 31 total innings as a reliever.
