Bobby Wilson placed on DL with concussion, Angels call up Hank Conger

Bobby Wilson is the latest player put on the special seven-day disabled list for concussions after the Angels catcher experienced dizziness and had to leave Monday’s game following a foul tip to the mask.

Wilson has a history of concussions and told Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com that he felt “fatigued” and “drowsy” the next morning, at which point the Angels put him on the DL and called up catching prospect Hank Conger from Triple-A.

Conger has been on the DL himself after missing a month in the minors with an elbow strain. It’s unfortunate that it took Wilson suffering a concussion for Conger to get an extended opportunity in the majors, but the 24-year-old former first-round pick has certainly deserved a chance after hitting .305 with 18 homers and an .854 OPS in 152 career games at Triple-A.

Mets are interested in Rick Porcello

Jon Heyman reports that the Mets are interested in free agent pitcher Rick Porcello and have been speaking to his agent.

Porcello is coming off a pretty dreadful 2019 season in which he went 14-12 with a 5.52 ERA in 32 starts. That ERA was the worst in the majors among qualified starters. He’s also pretty homer happy. But (a) he’s durable; and (b) a change of scenery and a move to a more pitcher-friendly division and park might do him some good, so it’s not like he’s a bad guy for the Mets to be looking at. He’s only going to be 31 next season and he’s just a year removed from a decent season.

There are far worse bounceback candidates.
