According to Chad Jennings of the Journal News, Ivan Nova is on track to start Saturday against the Reds after making it through a bullpen session this afternoon.
Nova was forced to leave his start Monday against the Orioles with a contusion and sprain of his right foot and ankle after attempting to field a tapper near the mound. His workout this afternoon consisted of throwing roughly 25 pitches and simulated coming off the mound. While he admitted that he still felt a little something in his ankle, he remains confident that he’ll make able to make his next scheduled turn in the rotation.
Nova was tagged for five runs over 5 1/3 innings in Monday’s abbreviated outing and he now owns a 5.44 ERA and 40/14 K/BB ratio in 43 innings over his first seven starts this season.
