Justin Morneau’s injured wrist must have felt pretty good after his batting practice session, because the Twins announced that he’ll be activated from the disabled list before tomorrow night’s game.
To clear room on the roster Minnesota demoted Chris Parmelee to Triple-A after the 24-year-old first baseman struggled when asked to jump from Double-A to the majors.
Parmelee, who wasn’t even particularly productive in two seasons at Double-A prior to a huge September for the Twins last year, hit just .179 with zero homers and a 22/6 K/BB ratio in 27 games.
By demoting Parmelee rather than, say, going from 13 pitchers to 12 pitchers the Twins are counting on Morneau being able to play at least some first base. He did so just four times in 20 games prior to landing on the DL, but with interleague play coming up he’ll have to be in the field if he’s in the lineup.
