Grady Sizemore has made enough progress in his recovery from back surgery that he participated in running and agility drills yesterday at Progressive Field, telling reporters afterward that he’s aiming to come off the disabled list “some time in June.”
Because he’s on the 60-day disabled list Sizemore isn’t even eligible to return until June 3 and obviously his extensive history of surgeries and setbacks makes any recovery timetable very optimistic.
Sizemore underwent surgery on March 1 and still hasn’t been cleared to take batting practice, with the center fielder admitting: “I still have a long ways to go. I have a lot of work to do, but I feel like I’m at the tail end of this rehab.”
At this point the Indians should probably view any potential contribution from Sizemore as a bonus even though they re-signed him to a one-year, $5 million deal in the hopes he’d finally be healthy after playing just 104 games during the past two seasons.
