If hedge fund billionaire Steve Cohen had been the successful bidder for the Dodgers, Tony La Russa was going to be the team president. That didn’t happen, though, so La Russa needs something to do. He got it:
Typo correction: La Russa’s deal with major league baseball not yet announced, will pay him about $2.5 million annually. Special advisor.

“Special Advisor” is pretty vague, so what, exactly, he’ll be doing is an open question. I suppose it’s still possible that he could take Joe Torre’s old job of disciplinarian (Torre will have different duties in his new position with MLB). But whatever the case, a salary of $2.5 million strikes me as really high for some amorphous ambassador gig. Torre, for example, makes $2 million.
