Logan Forsythe out eight weeks with fractured foot

Logan Forsythe, who had been hoping to win a spot on the Padres’ bench, is expected to miss the next eight weeks after aggravating an old fracture in his left foot.

John Schlegel of MLB.com reports that the 25-year-old infielder left Padres camp and headed back to San Diego to undergo surgery for a sesamoid bone fracture that he originally injured in college.

Forsythe, who was the 46th overall pick in the 2008 draft, hit just .213 with a .568 OPS in his 62-game debut last season, but has a .414 career on-base percentage in the minors.

With Forsythe out, Everth Cabrera is expected to be Padres’ reserve infielder to start the season. Cabrera probably had a leg up on the job anyway.
