Jonathan Papelbon ditches “Shipping Up To Boston” as entrance song

There was some confusion earlier this week regarding statements the Dropkick Murphys made about whether or not they wanted Jonathan Papelbon to continue using their song “Shipping Up To Boston” as his entrance music now that he’s pitching in Philadelphia.

Turns out, it was a moot point.

Papelbon told Todd Zolecki of MLB.com that he’s scrapped “Shipping Up To Boston” as his music and has already chosen a new song that he’s keeping secret for now.

Zolecki writes that Papelbon is friends with Dropkick Murphys lead singer Ken Casey, who apparently suggested simply changing the song’s lyrics to include “Philadelphia” instead of “Boston.” Papelbon did the band a favor and declined.
