Phillies add Dave Bush and David Purcey on minors deals

Philadelphia added some veteran pitching depth by signing David Purcey and re-signing Dave Bush to minor-league contracts with invitations to spring training.

Bush was once a solid mid-rotation starter for the Blue Jays and Brewers, but the 32-year-old right-hander spent much of this year at Triple-A for three different organizations. Philadelphia was the last of his stops and the Phillies apparently liked him enough to compete for a low-leverage job in camp.

Purcey pitched for the Mariners, A’s, and Tigers this year and the 2004 first-round pick has an ugly 5.38 ERA in 181 career innings spent mostly as a reliever. He was traded from Oakland to Detroit for Scott Sizemore in May, but then the Tigers outrighted the left-hander off the 40-man roster a few months later.
