Laynce Nix’s two-year deal with Phillies worth $2.5 million

Last night Laynce Nix agreed to a two-year contract with the Phillies and now Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that he’ll get $2.5 million.

That’s obviously bench player money, although Nix could end up becoming a quasi-starter in a platoon role. As an everyday player he’d be overmatched, as Nix has never shown any ability to hit left-handed pitching and sports a .288 career on-base percentage.

Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post reports that the Nationals also offered Nix a two-year deal for similar money, but he opted to join the team that’s won five straight NL East titles. According to Nix’s agent he also received “strong” interest from the Red Sox and A’s.
