Royals fire Frank White from television broadcast

Frank White played his entire 18-season career in Kansas City and has been a full-time analyst on the team’s television broadcasts for the past three years, but the Royals announced today that he won’t be back on the air in 2012.

White resigned from his role as Royals senior advisor last winter after being told he’d have to take a pay cut because television obligations took up much of his time. And now he’s out of that job as well despite the Royals and FOX Sports issuing a statement saying he “performed admirably in the booth.”

No replacement has been named and producer Kevin Shank was let go along with White.

UPDATE: Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports, who used to work in Kansas City, says the Royals fired White “because the team thought he was too critical.” In which case they fired White for basically doing a good job, as the Royals have lost 91, 95, and 97 games during the past three seasons.
