Russell Martin returns to Yankees’ lineup after thumb injury

According to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News, Russell Martin is back in the Yankees’ starting lineup for tonight’s game against the Mariners.

Martin hasn’t played since taking a foul tip of his right thumb during Saturday’s game. X-rays came back negative, but because of Francisco Cervelli’s concussion, the Yankees were forced to rely on 40-year-old Jorge Posada and rookies Jesus Montero and Austin Romine during his absence.

Cervelli’s return is very much up in the air at this point (in fact, he was placed on the disabled list today), so as of now, both Posada and Montero are in position to make the postseason roster.
