MRI on Coco Crisp’s foot comes back negative

Coco Crisp is out of the lineup for the fourth straight game tonight due to lingering soreness in his right foot and ankle. The speedy outfielder has appeared in just two games since fouling a ball off his foot on September 3.

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle at least brings some positive news, noting than an MRI on Crisp’s foot came back negative, but the timeline for his return can best be classified as vague. Athletics manager Bob Melvin would only say that he expects him to play again at some point in the “not-too-distant future.”

Crisp, who turns 32 in November, is batting .268/.323/.385 with seven homers, 47 RBI and a .708 OPS over 527 plate appearances this season. The impending free agent currently ranks second in the American League with 40 stolen bases.
