Al Alburquerque cleared to resume pitching after concussion

Al Alburquerque has been cleared to resume pitching and is expected to begin a brief minor-league rehab assignment nearly a month after the Tigers reliever suffered a concussion when he was struck by a ball during batting practice.

Jason Beck of MLB.com reports that Alburquerque will pitch Saturday at Triple-A and possibly again Monday, which is the final day of the International League season.

Alburquerque had to be hospitalized overnight and has been on the seven-day disabled list for concussions since, but the 25-year-old rookie showed a lot of promise before the injury by racking up an incredible 57 strikeouts in 37 innings while holding opponents to a .141 batting average.
