Hanley Ramirez is eligible to return from the disabled list two weeks after spraining his left shoulder, but Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post writes that “there’s a growing sense in the Marlins clubhouse” that he’ll miss the remainder of the season.
No one has ruled out Ramirez returning and manager Jack McKeon spoke about how “we need him” for the final month, but according to Capozzi “his return would surprise many people in the organization.”
Ramirez previously underwent surgery on the same shoulder in 2007, but had never missed more than 20 games in a season before this year. He’s already missed 31 games and hit just .243 with 10 homers and a .712 OPS before the injury, posting career-worst numbers across the board at age 27.
Based on Capozzi’s article it seems clear that some people within the Marlins organization believe he can come back from the sprained shoulder in September, so remaining on the DL certainly won’t help his already damaged reputation in Florida whether the injury warrants it or not.
